health insurance homelessness

Why was a federal mandate a non-solution (for good reason) when Obama was a candidate YET NOW it is a crucial?
Obama campaigned AGAINST a federal mandate for individuals to buy private insurance………
“I mean, if a mandate was the solution, we can try that to solve homelessness by mandating everybody to buy a house. The reason they don’t buy a house is they don’t have the money. ” -Candidate Barack Obama
Now I’m trying to understand. But why was a federal mandate a non-solution (for good reason) when Obama was a candidate YET NOW it is a crucial part of this health care bill??
I mean Obama made a VERY good argument AGAINST what he is currently trying to do.
“You can not cover pre existing conditions with out a mandate or people would wait until they get sick to buy insurance.”
But if you look at it from the insurance company’s point of view: Who cares about pre-existing conditions when I get 30 million new customers?? I don’t have to deny, I get them ALL.
You can not cover pre existing conditions with out a mandate or people would wait until they get sick to buy insurance. He did not understand the complexities in reforming medical care when he was a candidate but someone has explained it to him. We should have elected Hillary.
